Charles specializes in pop and rock guitar. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music theory from the University of Massachusetts and has been on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music since 2003.

As a performer, Charles has played with, or been on bills with, Leslie West (of Mountain), Jerry Shirley (Humble Pie), Randy Brecker, Rob McConnell, Ray Davies (the Kinks), Willie “Loco” Alexander, Asa Brebner (the Modern Lovers), and John Sands (Aimee Mann Band).

Charles has been teaching guitar for thirty years.  He founded Mass Ave Music in 2009 and is now teaching private instruction only. He teaches blues, rock, and pop styles—ranging from the Beatles, Hendrix, and Van Halen up to today’s alternative trends. He accepts students of all levels.
